Independence finds itself facing new competition after last year’s TSSAA re-districting. While District foe Summit remains, all the other WillCo schools have moved to other districts. Centennial and Brentwood remain on a schedule, but the District schedule looks different with Lincoln County (our Week 3 GOTW) , Columbia, Shelbyville, Stewart’s Creek, Franklin County, and Lavergne added to the mix. Add a non- conference game with Smyrna to the mix and the Eagles have as tough a schedule as they did in their old conference.
The good news is Independence has 15 returning starters to a team that was 6-6 last year. According to Greg Maupin of PrepWeekly.com The Eagles are set to soar with experience and depth at many key positions:
The Eagles return eight starters on the offensive side of the ball and run a multiple-spread offense. All-State quarterback Andrew Bunch (6’1”, 190) is back as a senior for Independence. Bunch threw for 2,800 yards and 24 touchdowns and ran an additional 500 yards for 12 touchdowns last season. The signal caller has offers from Austin Peay and Eastern Michigan.–prepweekly.com
According to Maupin, the Eagles will return 8 starters on defense.
