Founder of Waste Tech Services Celebrates 25 Years of Trash Talk

Ann Johnson

Waste Tech Services owner Ann Johnson is proud to celebrate over 25 years in the trash business taking her one woman shop to a business that now manages waste services for over 6,500 properties with clients across every state.

“We don’t pick up the trash, but we sure love to talk it,” says founder Ann Johnson. “Businesses are always looking for ways to save money, but most never think about looking for savings on their trash services. Our services come at zero risk and zero costs, as we only take a percentage of the money saved.”

Waste Tech Services (WTS) saves their clients’ money by brokering more favorable terms in their waste disposal contracts. All of their services are on a contingency-based program as there are no fees unless they find savings. The numbers prove that Johnson’s “National Women’s Business Enterprise Certified” company (31% of all firms in the U.S. are owned by women) has a firm foundation for continuous growth.

      •   1st Client, TAMCO, saved over $100,000 a month.
      •   6,500 properties in 50 states.
      •   9 full-time employees
      •   15 part-time employees
      •   94% of all clients find a saving with their services
      •   75 years of experience combined among the staff and over $2.6 million in savings for their clients annually

“In three years, Waste Tech Services has saved us over $40,000 after we paid their fees,” says Famous Dave’s CFO Laurel Renegar.

“Ann has been successful in tremendously reducing our costs. She is a delight to work with and is always responsive to our needs,” says Brookside Properties Executive Vice President W. Miles Warfield. (Brookside Properties owns and/or manages 5,000 apartment units in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida.)

“Like many business owners, I had no idea what represented an appropriate charge for my company’s solid waste removal; and when you and your team were able to save me $2,000 a month, I was thrilled. That is a savings of $120,000 over the next five years,” says Wearwell President Elliot Greenberg.

Additional WTS clients include: Freeman-Webb Companies, J. Alexander’s Restaurants, Ghertner & Company, HCP, Inc., the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and the oldest humanitarian/rescue outreach organization based in the U.S. The WTS team members work with their clients to improve solid waste handling, eliminate duplication, increase effectiveness, negotiate favorable service agreements and introduce innovative technology into their methods. They also work with their clients to reduce waste and increase recycling.

For Johnson, her community outreach doesn’t end at her company’s positive work in the waste management industry. Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam appointed Johnson to the Keep Tennessee Beautiful Board, a division of Keep American Beautiful. Johnson was also appointed for her third consecutive term at the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County TN Board, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving historical resources in Franklin and Williamson County. She also volunteers and donates annually to the following charities and organizations: Trashercise, CASA, The Liver Foundation and the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee.

“One of my fondest experiences was picking up trash along the Mississippi River and visiting the barge of 2013 CNN Hero of the Year Chad Pregracke. Hearing him speak about his unrelenting efforts to clean up the Mississippi and other U.S. waterways was such an inspiration.”
