Each summer, Friends of Franklin Parks’ “Raise the Roofs” fundraiser has brought the community together to celebrate the return of horses to the historic Park at Harlinsdale Farm. Now patrons will get to enjoy the fruits of their labor: the Fifth Annual event, to be held on Saturday, August 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., will take place in the newly opened Tractor Supply Co. Arena.
Patrons can expect great food and drink from a host of local restaurants, along with a polo match, equine athletic demonstrations, live music, a handful of wonderful auction items and more. And to celebrate the end of summer, guests are being asked to wear their best seasonal whites.
“Anyone who has attended a polo match this summer has seen how spectacular the new Arena is. The community rallied to make this happen, and there is a lot of work yet to be done, but the horses are back at Harlinsdale,” said Theresa Menefee, who is chairing the Raise the Roofs event with Lisa McInturff and Stacey Watson. “We thought is would be fun to wear the summer whites one last time before Labor Day as we celebrate our successes and look to the future.”
Tickets are $100 per person, and tables for 10 are available on the front row of the berm overlooking the Arena for $1,200, and the second row tables are $1,100. A portion of the purchase price is tax-deductible, and tickets are available online at www.friendsoffranklinparks.org. From 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., as the sun begins to set, attendees will be treated to a polo match, equine performances, live music and dancing, and some special elements that are not to be missed.
Co-chair Lisa McInturff says the event has always been a late summer favorite, but that this year’s program will be particularly special.
“Twilight at Harlinsdale is a sight to behold, and the grass berm is the perfect place for a tent that allows everyone to have a bird’s eye view of the action in the Arena. Coupled with delightful food from our favorite Franklin restaurants and a great party, we’re expecting a very memorable evening,” McInturff said.
