It’s always better to be over prepared for issues that come up within a school year. It helps avoid the panic of perhaps a late night homework assignment or not knowing what website to use. Here are 3 questions you should ask your child’s new teacher early in the school year.

1. What is the best way to reach you? Email, phone, text, in person?
At some point during the year, you will have to get in touch with the teacher. There is nothing worse than a Sunday evening trying to track down teacher information with nobody responding. If you have a business card, give some to your child’s teachers.

2. How much homework will require a computer and internet access?
Each year more and more homework is done online versus a textbook. Being prepared can help your child get ready to schedule their online homework. Knowing this also helps on deciding if it’s time to replace that old laptop you’ve been getting by with. Again, who wants to get caught doing homework on a Sunday evening with a laptop that bites the dust.

3. What websites and parent portals will you be using?
This is very important as not all teachers use the same form of communication. Find out which parent portals they will be using to list homework assignments. Also, find out what learning websites the teacher will be using. They all use different ones during the school year and it helps to bookmark these early.
