FPD Give the All Clear in Suspicious Package Investigation at District Attorney’s Office

DA Office, Franklin

UPDATED at 12:20pm:

At 8:40am this morning, emergency responders were sent to the District Attorney’s Office at 421 Main St to investigate a suspicious package.

The  package was addressed to District Attorney General Kim Helper. The characteristics of the package  concerned her and she placed the package outside and alerted authorities.  A Franklin Police supervisor requested the Tennessee Highway Patrol Bomb Squad investigate. The Franklin Fire Department, Williamson County EMS and Emergency Management were also on the scene.

“In course of picking up our mail, there was a package that looked out of the ordinary. Not like a normal mail delivered package. We contacted Franklin Police who responded immediately and also felt the package looked suspicious. Based on that, FPD called the THP Bomb Squad who came out and deemed it harmless,” said District Attorney General Kim Helper.

The alley, connecting 5th and 4th Avenue, was closed as the bomb squad investigated.

Authorities concluded that the package contained evidence in a potential criminal matter and was not believed to have been intended to cause any alarm. THP surrendered possession of the package to General Helper.

The area was reopened to the public at 10:26.
