Joe Berry Butler

Joe Berry Butler, 87, a long-time resident of Carter’s Creek Station Community, died Thursday, January 16, 2020 at NHC-Maury Regional.

Born August 13, 1932 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Walter Neil Butler and the late Mattie Louise Edwards Butler. He was a graduate of Spring Hill High School and was captain of the football team. He served in the Army, was a long-time farmer in Carter’s Creek Community, and was a long-time employee of Union Carbide.

Mr. Butler was a wonderful husband, daddy, pappy, and great-pappy. He was a member of Neapolis United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Emily Dodd Butler of Columbia; children, Brenda (Cary) Blue of Columbia; Linda (Bill) McMillin of Culleoka; Mike (Sonya) Butler of Columbia; sister, Martha (James) Lee of Columbia; Sister-in-law, Wanda Butler of Columbia; grandchildren, Billy (Tiffany) McMillin of Columbia; Bobby (Heather) McMillin of Columbia; Bryan McMillin of Culleoka; Lillie Butler of Columbia; Mattie Butler of Columbia; and great granddaughters, Laika McMillin of Lewisburg; Ava McMillin of Columbia; and Alyssa Potts of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his brother and sister in law, Jimmy and Ethel Butler; sister and brother in law, Betty Ann and Bud Hurt, and brother, Jack Butler.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Earl Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Bill McMillin, Billy McMillin, Bobby McMillin, Bryan McMillin, David Butler, and Phil Sutherland. Honorary pallbearers include members of Neapolis United Methodist Church, Dr. Martin Chaney, and Dr. Deborah Goldsmith.
