Father Ryan Ends Season on 3-Game Skid
With the disappointing way the season has gone for Father Ryan lately, it might not have been a surprise that the Fighting Irish finished the regular season on Friday night with a 31-14 loss to visiting Baylor.
Father Ryan really had a tough second half to its season. After starting 3-1, the loss meant the Fighting Irish limped to a 1-5 finish, ending their regular season on a three-game losing streak. Other than a win against Spring Hill in the first week of October they have not won since early September.
But in Division II-AA basically all the teams get into the postseason. The bracket pits 7 teams from the East/Middle region and 4 from the West region. Since their are 7 teams in the former and 4 in the latter, everyone gets in. The single-elimination tournament is a totally new season, and Father Ryan really is better than its record.

Against Baylor (8-2, 3-2) on Friday the Fighting Irish fell behind 21-0, before getting on the board in the third quarter. Father Ryan played Baylor pretty evenly in the second half,as Baylor extended its 14-0 halftime lead by just 3 points over the final two quarters.
With 252 yards of offense, Father Ryan actually gained more yards than the Red Raiders, who had 227.
Quarterback Zack Pfeifer put up pretty decent numbers in the losing effort, throwing 7 for 16 for 102 yards and running for 47 yards and a score on 13 carries. Standout Father Ryan running back Bryce Vickers (6 carries for 69 yards) made plays and had no problem cutting through the Baylor defense, which begs the question of why he had only 7 touches on offense.
Father Ryan plays next Friday at Ensworth in round one of the Division II-AA playoffs. Ensworth (4-6, 2-3) beat the Fighting Irish by 20 points on October 23.
