Sneaker Trend Alert!

There seems to be a cross over from runway to street fashion.  The credit for this merger has been given to Isabel Marant when she introduced the sneaker wedge in 2010.  Runway looks for Spring/Summer 2013 also had several other designers showing Nike athletic wear  sneakers with full skirted sun dresses.  This footwear of choice among the highly fashionable is showing up with everything from jeans with  moto biker jackets to flirty skirts  and sundresses.

So why is this sneaker craze continuing?  Perhaps it’s the influence of bloggers with street trend looks but really this trend has been bubbling up for a few seasons.  Women are embracing this sneaker trend much like they have embraced the ballet  flat.    Could the sneaker trend  replace the  ballet flat?

Women like a comfort shoe. The sneaker has been reinvented in lively colors and punchy prints.  Gone are the ridiculious 4 inch heels which most women could barely walk.   As the menswear look having its moment,  the trend of athletic sneakers are here to stay.   Now keep in mind these functional sneakers do not mean the ones you use to cut the grass or wear to the gym.  Here are some pics of the sneaker trend:

So the next time you are out running errands or attending your next function, will you be wearing the your functional sneakers?   As much as I like comfort and fashion, I find this trend to be more for the under 30 crowd.  If you are dressed in your cute flirty sundress with sneakers and kids in tow, it just doesn’t have the same look.

Ok, so fashionistas give me your thoughts on the new sneaker trend?  Stay Fashionable!
