5 Spring Break Options that Appeal to Teens

As your family gets older, planning a spring break vacation can become more challenging. Teens often have more opinions about where the family will spend their time and no longer will an amusement park hold their attention.  USA Today put together a list of five options that tend to appeal to teens.

Cruises
Cruises pack a variety of entertainment onto one enormous ship that serves as your home base as you travel around to several destinations. Cruise lines target families by offering activities for all ages, from toddlers to teens. Parents enjoy adult-only areas like lounges or separate pool areas on many cruise ships. Ships will also have special lounge areas just for preteens and teens and first-run movies in the onboard theaters. Check out the options on the Norwegian Cruise line.

Make a Difference Spring Break

Families can work side-by-side on a project for a non-profit close to home or in another country. There are lots of organizations who will organize a project to coincide with spring break. Visit the Volunteer Matching site for more information.

Visit a Major City

Larger cities like Washington, DC offer free family activities like the Smithsonian. Often with big cities, learning how to navigate the subway or bus system is an adventure itself.  Chicago is within driving distance with options for museums, professional sports, and theater options. Visit the official Chicago visitors website for more information.

Take in Nature

Sometimes we need to be unplugged. Take the family on a camping trip where you can hike trails, or go for a canoe ride. You can plan out a road trip with multiple stops on your trip focusing on diners or other points of interest along the way.

Snow Sports in Spring

With spring break taking place in March, there will still be plenty of snow in Colorado. Aspen Snowmass has a special offer to get your kids on the mountains. Rent your kids equipment (ages 7- 12) from Four Mountain Sports, and they’ll get a free lift ticket. Rent as often as you like and they’ll get complimentary lift tickets for the same amount of days on their rental. Visit the AspenSnowmass website for more information.
