2014 NBA Draft Roundup: Who did the Grizzlies Pick?

The 2014 NBA Draft is now complete, and with as much hype surrounding the 2014 class, the lottery teams were loaded with selections of players that could make an immediate impact.

The Memphis Grizzlies had the 22nd overall pick of the first round and used it to select Jordan Adams, a 6-5, 209 pound sophomore guard from UCLA.

The pick makes sense for the Grizzlies, as they need serious help on the offensive side. Put him alongside Mike Conley to get him open and Adams will be able to get his points, easily averaging at least double figures. At UCLA, Adams posted 17.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game while shooting 48% from the floor and 35% from three-point range.

Sports Illustrated writes that Adams is “frequently described as one of the draft’s least athletic guards, but Adams is a gifted scorer that deepens the Memphis backcourt.” The Grizzlies will be hoping that they did the right thing. To be able to survive in the Western Conference, Memphis will need to put up better scoring numbers and get back to the playoffs.

Deep in the second round, two players from the University of Tennessee were selected 24 picks between each other: and one will stay in the state.

The Grizzlies with the 35th overall pick selected junior forward Jarnell Stokes. The 6-8, 263-pound Stokes was originally going to be used by the Utah Jazz but was traded to Memphis for a future second-round pick.

Then with the 58th pick, 6-5, 179-pound senior guard Jordan McRae was chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers, originally from the San Antonio Spurs.
