Beginning the week of August 1st, residents will receive Census cards. Census cards will be mailed to every household in Franklin the week of August 1st. Once the card is received, residents are asked to provide the name and age of each person living in the household and return the card in the postage-paid envelope prior to August 23rd. Residents may also visit the city’s website (www.FranklinTN.gov/2014SpecialCensus) to complete a form online. franklin census 2

An accurate population count helps the City better plan for facilities and services. It also means an increase in the amount of State-shared revenues the City receives. “We estimate that this Special Census could mean an additional $600,000 for the City,” stated Catherine Powers, Director of the City’s Planning & Sustainability Department. “This additional revenue could be used for improved or expanded services.” Results of the federal government’s 2010 Census list the population of Franklin at just over 62,000.

“We appreciate the efforts of our residents in assisting us with this vital information,” said Mayor Ken Moore. Census cards are due before August 23rd. Every household that does not respond either by mail or online will be visited by a census taker to collect the necessary information from that address.
