Towns’ three TD passes not enough for Father Ryan

Father Ryan quarterback Cameron Towns threw three touchdown passes to three different receivers in 28-21 season-opening loss at John Overton Friday night.

The Fightin’ Irish (0-1) were down 21-14 in the fourth quarter when Towns threw a 28-yard pass to Andrew Rector to tie the game with 7:14. But Overton running back Justin Martin, who scored three running touchdowns and one receiving touchdown, put the Bobcats (1-0) ahead for good with just over three minutes left in the game.

Overton scored early in the first half on a Justin Martin 77-yard run. Father Ryan struck back with a 78-yard bomb from Towns to receiver Dekeivis Perry and a 32-yard pass to Tyler Shoop, giving the Fightin’ Irish a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Bobcats tied the game at 14 apiece with 4:54 left in the second quarter, when Overton quarterback Ugo Amadi threw a 65-yard pass to Martin. Martin’s 2-yard touchdown run halfway through the third quarter gave the Bobcats the 21-14 lead over Father Ryan.

Father Ryan will play Aug. 30 against Battle Ground Academy. Kickoff is at 7 p.m at BGA.
