Brentwood-based BELL Construction (BELL) announced the topping out of the Cheatham County Jail & Courts Expansion project in Ashland City, marking a major milestone in the construction of this significant facility upgrade. A topping out ceremony was held on October 24 at 11 AM.

The 72,715 square-foot expansion and renovation of the Cheatham County Jail & Courts, in collaboration with Cheatham County and MBI Companies, Inc., will add 200 new beds, two new courtrooms and modernize the facility with new intake, booking, holding areas, kitchen and laundry space.

BELL’s Civil Division is managing critical sitework, including substantial grading and excavation, construction of a new jail building pad, parking lot and the installation of new fire and domestic water services, sanitary sewer, storm drainage and primary electrical services. BELL also serves as the master plumber and fire sprinkler contractor for the project.

“We are excited to celebrate the topping out, which marks a significant milestone in the Cheatham County Jail & Courts Expansion project,” said Rick Bruining, director of justice at BELL. “We are proud of our partnership with Cheatham County and MBI Companies, Inc., and we are committed to delivering a facility that enhances public safety and meets the needs of the community for years to come.”

The Cheatham County Jail & Courts Expansion is set to officially complete in May 2026.
