Cheryl Brehm is Mrs. Tennessee for 2015. While most might think Mrs. Tennessee is about the pageant, Cheryl told us it was more about helping getting the word out about her cause. We sat down with Mrs. Tennessee to learn more about her platform and how “one day” changed her life.
1.
How long have you lived in Franklin?
My husband and I have lived her for six years now. We made Franklin our destination to move here after visiting my sister. We also wanted to be closer to family and my nieces.
2
Tell us about your first pageant?
So, believe it or not, Mrs. Tennessee 2015 was my very first pageant. I was talking with a friend one night about my work with Mercy Ministries and how I wish I could help get the word out. My friend said why don’t you do this pageant? She said, it’s just one night where you have to dress up. After that you get to share with everyone what your are passionate about. I’m really a nerd-jock type girl and I learned, after the fact when I won, all the things that I did wrong!

You said you were a nerd-jock, tell us more about that?
My husband and I are competitive sand volleyball players. We have competed all over the country in tournaments. And in college I was a pre-med student but then I changed to education. I have completed about 50 half marathon and 6 full marathons. I am so not a girly-girl. I am currently an online professor at Liberty University where I teach Lower Level Education classes for teachers.

How long have you been involved with Mercy Ministries?
I am very passionate about Mercy Ministries and the way that they help young women through difficult times in their life. I have spent the last six years as a volunteer. I chose it as my platform so that more people would understand how they help young women, as currently there are 700 girls on the waiting list. The more that I can share about what they do, hopefully the more support they will receive and so many girls will not have to be on the wait list.

What do you like about Franklin?
Everyone is so warm and friendly here. It is the volunteer state and I see that everyday how people are so willing to help each other. I also enjoy how Franklin is so family oriented. I just couldn’t think of a better place to live than Franklin.
Thanks so much to Cheryl for taking time out to talk with us about Mrs. Tennessee.
