Brett Kissel is a native Canadian that now calls Nashville home. Kissel will be making his Opry debut today, Saturday, Aug 28th.  We sat down with him to learn more about his Opry debut, and his album release party that will take place this weekend at the Franklin Theatre.

1.

We see that you are from Edmonton Canada which is Nashville’s sister city, was it a natural move to come to Nashville?

As a proud Albertan, it was definitely tough to leave my homeland, but having travelled to Nashville countless times since I was a kid, it wasn’t a big culture shock.

Nashville and Edmonton have so much in common that for me, it was an easy transition, a natural fit, and one of the best things I’ve ever done to propel my career to new heights. After all, being a part of the vibrant scene in “Music City” can only be a good thing…

2

Who are your musical influences?

My musical influences have stayed the same since I was a kid. No matter where I go, or what I do, these artists have always played a role in who I am as a singer, songwriter, and entertainer.

1) Johnny Cash – legendary songwriter, outstanding performer, and ever since I first learned to play guitar, I was in love with his “boom chicka boom” sound…

2) Buck Owens – ever since I got the live recording of his concert at Carnegie Hall, I was hooked. The guy knew how to command a crowd, and I loved every single one of his many number one hits.

3) Glen Campbell – for a while I was immersed in “symphony music” within the country genre. And no one had better sounding recordings than Glen Campbell. To this day, “Galveston” is my all time favorite song.

4) George Strait – when I started to play live, I realized that I likely knew or could perform each one of George’s 60 #1 hits. That’s how much I loved his music.

5) Garth Brooks – last but not least, I’ve been influenced by the worlds greatest entertainer in more ways than one. No one could command a stage like Garth could (and still can), and the more people I meet, the more I hear that Garth Brooks is the nicest and most caring man they’ve ever met in the business. He’s certainly someone to look up to…

3

How are you feeling about your Grand Ole Opry debut?

Words cannot even possibly describe how excited I am to play on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Like every country singer, performing on that coveted stage has been on my bucket list since I started performing, and to now get the opportunity to stand in that sacred circle where Johnny, Hank, George, and Garth have all stood before – like I said… Words cannot describe my excitement!

4

Why did you  chose the Franklin Theatre for your album release party?

As we researched all the special concert venues in Nashville and surrounding area, it was easy to select the Franklin Theatre because of its’ amazing history, incredible sound, and most of all, unique charm. I know that my fans, (at least the two hundred traveling from Canada for my Opry debut), are going to love this venue!

Tell us more about your new album, Pick Me Up?

There is so much to tell about our new album coming out this fall, but I’ll first start by expressing how excited I am for my fans to hear the progression and maturity in my presentation as a singer, songwriter, and performer.

We’ve got a collection of songs I’m extremely proud of, some world class duets, and most of all, we’ve stepped up our game when it comes to production quality.

The album is going to sound great. Each song tells a different story, and it’s undoubtedly the best project I’ve ever worked on in my career.

Thanks so much to Brett Kissel  for sharing with us. Check out Brett Kissel on Facebook for the latest updates.
