Yesterday at Walker Chevrolet in Franklin, country music star Tracy Lawrence and his wife were up early to shoot a commercial for the local Chevy dealer. Just before shooting wrapped for the day, we spoke with Lawrence about his upcoming turkey fry event, new music, Chevys and his favorite fair food.
Your day started really early this morning, what was the call time?
I got started this morning at 4 am so we could get the sunrise. We did, however, get some beautiful shots in the pick-up truck.
So is the Chevy pick-up truck your favorite?
I’ve been fond of Chevys for a long time, I grew up in a small town where Chevy was the predominate truck to drive. I’ve been driving Chevys for a long time.
You are still touring, how many shows a year do you perform?
I usually do 90-100 shows a year. I work all year until the middle of December and then come home until the middle of January. We play everywhere from state fairs to casinos to festivals.
We have to know, what is your favorite fair food?
Red velvet funnel cake with cream cheese icing! It’s unbelievable but they don’t have it at all of the fairs.
Any new music in the works?
I’m scheduled to go back into the studio in the next few weeks. I was supposed to be back in the studio earlier but I had to delay it when my father died. I’m writing a few songs for the album and there will be a duet with some of my peers.
Any hints on who your duets will be with?
I can’t give out any names yet, but soon.
Your annual Lawrence’s Mission Possible Turkey Fry is coming up soon at the Nashville Rescue Mission, what can we expect this year?
It takes place the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. We are now in our 11th year and it benefits the Nashville Rescue Mission. Over the years, we have fried about 5,000-6,000 turkeys. I never imagined it would have turned into this. This past year we added a concert to the event where a few of our friends came out, we had Charlie Daniels, Lorrie Morgan, Darryl Worley, and 3 Doors Down, Brad Arnold.
This year, we have the concert after the event. It will be held at the Wildhorse Saloon and we are taking the Lawrence Mission Possible Turkey Fry event on the road by adding three additional cities. We will be giving out more details soon about the other cities.
Thanks to Tracy Lawrence for taking time out to talk with us. Keep checking back here for more information on the upcoming turkey fry at the Nashville Rescue Mission and how to purchase tickets to the concert.
