Local Living: 5 Things to Do This Week

1. Christmas 4 Kids

WHAT: Christmas 4 Kids, a non profit that provides hundreds of underprivileged children in Middle Tennessee with their very own Christmas shopping spree, will host a special concert featuring performances by Shenandoah, Restless Heart, Darryl Worley, Mitchell Tenpenny, Halfway to Hazard and Sandra Lynn. TG Sheppard and Kelly Lang will host the show.

Tickets are $38.50 and $60.00 and are available for purchase now at Ryman.com. All proceeds generated from the concert go to the Christmas 4 Kids organization.

The funds generated by the Ryman concert and Tour Bus Show/Artist Meet and Greet event, are used to give over 400 children from 29 different schools, a day-long shopping excursion.

2. Thanksgiving Cookie Class

WHAT: Laura’s Custom Cookies & Sugar Drop will show you how to make adorable Thanksgiving cookies. In this class students will receive recipes for the perfect sugar cookie and royal icing and will learn techniques including consistencies for outlining, flooding, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry and marbling. Laura will have a live demonstration on how to make the perfect royal icing and will help students create 6 Thanksgiving themed cookies with hands-on instruction each step of the way.

3. Make a Turkey Marionette

WHAT: If you’re looking for something to do with your child over Thanksgiving week, this make and take craft session at the Spring Hill Library is a great idea. Learn how to make a turkey you can wobble around the room. All supplies provided.

4. Turkey Trot


WHAT: The 2018 Turkey Trot benefiting GraceWorks will take place Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22, at Prairie Life Fitness near CoolSprings Galleria.

New this year is the addition of a certified 10K Course! The 10K begins at 7:45am, with the 5K Run/Walk starting at 8:15am, followed by the Kids 1K Turkey Chase (ages 9 and under) at 9:45am.

Long Sleeve A4 Cooling Performance Tees are guaranteed to the first 3,000 registered 5K/10K runners with short sleeve versions to the first 200 to register for the Kids 1K Turkey Chase.

5. Toys and Traditions: Christmas in the 1930s

WHAT: Cheekwood will feature a special holiday exhibit, Toys and Traditions: Christmas in the 1930s beginning Friday, November 23. The exhibit highlights key decorations, vintage advertisements and toys of the era, as well as replicas of Christmas cards sent by the Cheeks. Located in the Recreation Room of the Historic Mansion, the exhibit will be on view during regular operating hours as well as Holiday LIGHTS and Holiday at Cheekwood.
