Local Author Inspired by Franklin for New Novel

Local author Katie Shands immerses readers in the Southern charms of Franklin with her new novel Finding Franklin. Set on “America’s Favorite Main Street,” Finding Franklin tells the story of Charlotte Clark, a woman who returns to Franklin where her mother had abandoned her as a newborn. Haunted by unanswered questions and an
unrelenting desire for roots, Charlotte purchases a dilapidated Victorian near the historic downtown and sets out to solve the mystery of her birth.

The answers are well-hidden among the church bells and small-town graces, but when Charlotte finds a secret diary written by a woman missing for decades, she believes it holds an ominous connection to her own murky past. Could violence lurk in the annals of her family history? Charlotte decides she must know the truth and set things right for this mysterious woman, but she soon discovers that someone is willing to kill to keep those
secrets buried.

In the end, Charlotte is faced with a reality much different than what she had envisioned, and she must determine what the past means for her present. Finding Franklin explores the nature of family and demonstrates how God can transform our greatest tragedies into lessons of love and grace.

Finding Franklin is the 2017 fiction winner of the Janice Keck Literary Awards through the Williamson County Public Library.
