Franklin Special School District (FSSD) Director Dr. David Snowden announced that Lee Kirkpatrick will take the position of Student Support Services Supervisor for the system.
Kirkpatrick was principal of Poplar Grove Elementary for the past 10 years and leaves to take on the responsibilities of building the capacity of licensed educators serving students and families in varying support service programs and providing support for students and families in support programs.
“Serving as an administrator at Poplar Grove Elementary for the past 10 years has been the most rewarding work of my career,” said Kirkpatrick.
While the title is new, some of Kirkpatrick’s responsibilities are currently being served by Dr. Kay Boan, who will move to Student Performance Supervisor following the July 1 retirement of long-time FSSD educator and administrator Annie Sawyers.
“Mr. Kirkpatrick’s overall experience as an elementary school principal and his excellent interpersonal skills make him a great fit for the position of Student Support Services Supervisor,” said Snowden. “We are excited to have him join the teaching and learning team and look forward to the special perspective he will be able to provide administrators, teachers and other support personnel in this new role.”
Kirkpatrick’s major areas of focus will include overseeing the English as a Second Language program, the pre-kindergarten program of services, coordinating services with community agencies and resources, serving as the Homeless Liaison, and supervising district-wide counseling programs and high school transition services.
“In the role of Student Support Services Supervisor, I look forward to collaborating with teachers, parent liaisons/translators, pre-K teachers, paraprofessionals and guidance counselors in support of students in all schools. Additionally, the opportunity to work with the FSSD Leadership Team convinced me this was the right next step in my educational career. I consider myself to be very fortunate to be able to work with so many committed educators, talented students and supportive parents.”
