Fairview Falls Behind Late

Fairview led for most of their game against Creek Wood Friday, but slowly lost their lead and the game, 17-14.

After jumping out to a 14-0 lead, the Yellowjackets never scored again against Creek Wood.

Jake Beathard had a two-touchdown night, both in the first quarter, for the Yellowjackets. He ran back a fumble recovery17 yards for the first points of the night; Then after another lost fumble by Creek Wood, capped a short drive with a 14-yard scamper to put Fairview ahead 14-0.

Creek Wood answered with only a field goal in the first half, and the Yellowjackets looked cool and in control going into the half.

But Fairview sputtered on offense and, for the second week in a row, racked up penalties.

Other than Beathard, 14 rushes for 98 yards, and Hunter Caldwell, 10 rushes for 62 yards, the Yellowjackets saw scant success.

Hunter Zimmerman connected just 3 of his 11 attempts for 19 yards. The Creek Wood pass defense simply smothered the Yellowjackets downfield.

Next week Fairview opens district play, hosting Stewart County in its first 3A Region 6 game of the year. Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season.
