Independence (2-0) looks just plain nasty so far this season.
Dangerous, deadly, explosive. And any other word you can think of to describe an offense that put up almost 100 points in two games. In high school, teams win basketball games with fewer points than the Eagles are averaging.
These Eagles are birds of prey.
On opening night Indy beat Brentwood 47-17. Then Centennial fell last Friday 49-7.
Now this Friday in our Game of the Week, after downing the two former district foes, Indy faces Lincoln County in its first test in its new neighborhood: 5A Region 5.
(Our other game of the week, Page at Spring Hill, happens Thursday night.)
“We are excited to start district/region play this week,” said Eagles coach Scott Blade. “We look forward to playing Lincoln County and know they will bring energy coming off of their opening win last week.”

The Falcons (1-0) shut Lawrence county out last week- winning 40-0.
Eagles and Falcons: Air Supremacy
The Eagles are perfectly named, a bird that dominates the air in its ecosystem. Senior quarterback Andrew Bunch and his nest of talented receivers have left defenses in the dust so far this year.
Bunch, who only played in the first half last week, put up numbers that justify his All-State selection last year. He has totaled 681 yards, 7 touchdowns and 43 completions on 65 pass attempts this year. Averaging more than 10 yards per attempt and a touchdown for every 10 attempts is, in an understatement, very good. He has added 90 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 rushing attempts, too.
Bunch is targeting two senior receivers, mainly: Seth Hunter and Nate Johnson. Hunter has scored 3 touchdowns is and gained 215 yards on 14 catches. Johnson, after a 10-catch, 142-yard and 2 touchdown game against Brentwood, only caught one pass for 10 yards last week. Look for him to get back in formation Friday, because after all that is what All-State (last year) players do.
On the ground, and the ability to do anything on offense is what truly has made Indy so unstoppable this year, Daniel Wright has been consistent and good. He gained 52 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 carries against Brentwood and 80 yards on 10 carries last week.
“We need to keep improving every week. We missed some opportunities last week and are working hard to correct some of our mishaps,” Eagles coach Scott Blade said. “We are looking to improve our overall consistency in all phases. The boys attitude and willingness to keep working hard is a big positive. This team has a chance to be pretty good before its all said and done.”
This game has all the makings of a shootout; one of those first-team-to-40-wins kind of games.
