Fairs and Festivals Series Part 1
May is full of things to do in Williamson County and Middle Tennessee. For example a short drive out to Triune will garner a visit to the past at the Annual Tennessee Renaissance Festival at Castle Gywnn. Beautiful pageantry, knights on horseback, fabulous foods and entertainers galore wait as you step back in time to 16th Century England. Costumes are not required but make sure you check out the theme for the weekend in case you want to join in the fun.
Tickets are available online for you to spend a day or weekend at the fair. The site is open every weekend in May and also on Memorial Day. Adult admission is $20 and children 12 and under is $7. Weekend themes include Family and Community Appreciation, Celtic, Pirate Invasion and the Royal Jousting Tourney. There are always free children’s activities at the fair, as well has man powered rides, a children’s knighting ceremony and children’s costume contest. Castle tours are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., mounted jousting is seen daily, as is the human chess match, birds of prey, knife throwing displays, fairies and more.
Put on some appropriate attire or just some comfy walking shoes and take a jaunt into the realm of make believe. Popular favorite performers have returned this year. Join “Axel the Sot” for a drink in the tavern, watch “Buckle and Swash” sword fight as they tell tales of pirates and fighting, or be mesmerized by “Paulo Garbanzo” with his juggling skill mixed with comedy. Rain or Shine the show will go on, so don’t let any excuses keep you away from this year’s Tenn Ren.
