Christ Presbyterian Academy’s boys defeated Franklin 5-4 Saturday in the First Annual FHS Tennis Invitational Tournament.

CPA and Franklin each advanced to the finals with wins over Stewart’s Creek and Independence.

Franklin’s girls tennis team also reached the finals with wins over Indy and Stewart’s Creek, falling to St. Cecilia 5-3 in the championship round.

The tournament followed a regular team-format with six singles matches and three doubles matches. The first team to win five matches advanced.

“Coach Matt Lacheta and I were extremely proud of how hard Franklin played during a long, great day of tennis that included playing four full matches -8 matches for some – from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.,” coach Michael Watson said. “Overall, the tournament was a success thanks to the efforts of our parent-volunteers as well as help from Tammy Adams, Shane Pantall, Lisa Graham, and Ann Benkert.”

Franklin has district matches this week against Summit, Independence and Ravenwood while CPA hits the tennis courts versus BGA, Father Ryan, and Ensworth.
