Artistic Director at Christ Presbyterian Academy, Paula Flautt, was awarded the Hubert Smothers Award recently at the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools Biennial Conference held recently.
The Hubert Smothers Awards are presented to individuals from TAIS member schools who have evidenced a deep commitment to the teaching profession and who have demonstrated excellence in all they do. Recipients are nominated to the TAIS Board of Directors by a member of their school’s administration.
Paula Flautt has taught at CPA for the last 23 years. As the Artistic Director at CPA, Flautt teaches the advanced theatre classes as well as direct the main stage shows. We spoke to Flautt asking her about her role at CPA, Flautt said “much of my work is leading the fine arts staff and programs for students in all our arts areas: visual arts, vocal and instrumental music, theatre, dance and media arts. I certainly see our students flourish in performance —- they are capable of so much more than so many realize. Setting the bar high and teaching to that, directing and mentoring to that, engages them in such a way that they discover who they are and what they can do in shows, competitions, university and conservatory programs and careers. But what I love seeing flourish the most is the growth in collaboration, problem solving, innovation, serving and leading. Those are skills that will make a difference in their lives and others wherever they go!”
Congratulations to Ms Paula Flautt on being the recipient of the Hubert Smothers Award! Flautt gives her reaction upon receiving the award.” I was shocked and overwhelmed. I work with so many people that have accomplished so much. TAIS is filled with so many outstanding professionals making a difference. I was stunned to be noted.”
