Bowie Park is hosting a very special Christmas event on Dec 21st.
Between noon and 3pm on the 21st, the community is invited to take part in the 11th Annual Memory Tree (at Joann’s Outdoor Classroom), by placing an ornament on the tree. The memory tree is there to help us remember special people in our lives who are not with us during the holiday season. Bring an ornament and place it on the tree and think of them.
If you cannot make it on December 21st between Noon – 3:00 to place your ornament beside the many from past years, you can place an ornament on the tree any time between December 21 and New Year’s Eve
About Joann’s Outdoor Classroom:
Janie Wells had Joann’s Outdoor Classroom built in Bowie Nature Park Oct. 2002 in memory of her daughter Joann Tiesler. Ms. Wells wished to donate something to the park as a memorial for her daughter whose life ended on October 7, 2001. The classroom is a 1,000 square foot facility that can seat 100 people and features a stage, 2 lockable storage areas, mobile tables and benches, a wooden fence with gates, tin room and even a copula with a bell.
Its primary use is as an outdoor classroom to support the park and schoolteachers when students come to the park for nature classes. The classroom is designed to be as multifunctional as possible.
