In a statement released by WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney, responds to claims that some WCS teachers cheated on TCAP assessments this spring:

“We have received local media calls regarding claims that some WCS teachers cheated on TCAP which is false and unfounded. While we typically don’t respond to false statements and insinuations, the character of Williamson County Schools teachers and administrators has been maligned.

We have received local media calls regarding claims that some WCS teachers cheated on TCAP, which is false and unfounded…. Dr. Looney

Here are the facts.

On Friday, April 24, 2015, the Tennessee Department of Education contacted the district’s assessment analyst to inform him that the department had flagged the 2014 social studies TCAP assessment results for six eighth grade special education students in one testing group in one of our 41 schools.  The district was asked to conduct a local investigation, per state procedures, and to report its findings and provide supporting documents.

The district complied with this request, submitted all supporting documents, and received confirmation from the Assessment Logistics office of the Tennessee Department of Education on Thursday, May 14, 2015, that all concerns had been addressed. In addition, the state auditor supervising this matter confirmed by phone that WCS has sufficient testing security procedures in place and that the matter is closed.

There is no evidence to substantiate any claim that any  WCS teacher acted inappropriately while administering the 2014 social studies TCAP to six special education students.  The Tennessee Department of Education found no wrongdoing, but we do appreciate the State’s vigilance on this matter.

As the Superintendent of Williamson County Schools, I hold employees accountable for testing irregularities in order to ensure that the WCS tests accurately reflect all of our students’ performance, and I will continue to do so. In addition, I will vigorously defend the integrity of our teachers, principals and schools when inaccurate information is presented as fact.”  -Dr. Mike Looney
