Want to Switch Schools Early for the Rezone? WCS Releases Application

Williamson County Schools (WCS) is in the process of enacting a rezoning that will affect 8% of the district’s nearly 40,000 students.

The proposal will create zone lines for the district’s three new schools: an elementary school in Brentwood and an elementary and a middle school in Thompson’s Station, as well as slightly redraw much of the district. Those schools will open for the 2018-19 school year. The new zoning, also, will go into effect that year.

The rezoning will not be final until the May 15 school board meeting.

But if a student will have to change schools, families can apply to attend their new school in the 2017-2018 school year instead of waiting.

The application can be found here, and sent to:

An explanation of the rezoning proposal is below. In total, 2,953 students will be rezoned:

1,418 elementary, 891 middle and 644 high school students will be rezoned based on projected attendance in 2018-2019. Of current students, 914 in elementary and 528 in middle school will switch schools.

Nine of the 44 district schools are over capacity and six more are nearing. The number of students in the district is projected at the beginning of the 2017-18 school year to be 39,919 and is expected to increase by 4 to 5 percent each year. The rezoning plan looks at where houses are being built and makes tweaks to anticipate the best way to distribute that growth, and also to fill in the three new schools previously mentioned.
