Circumstances may change, but memories will forever remain the same. Summit High School’s Scot Keasler informed the school on Monday that he will be resigning from his position as head football coach at the end of the season.
Summit opened its doors as a brand new high school three years ago, and this season is Keasler’s third year with the Spartans.
“An opportunity to start something from the ground up that someone else can now build on” is what Keasler says is a positive attribute gained from this experience. “An opportunity to hire and work with not only great coaches, but great men.”
Not only has Keasler gained positive experiences but has made many memories on the Spartan turf as well, including proposing to his wife.
“My favorite memory is seeing my kids’ (Gunnar and Ashlyn) faces and getting big hugs from them after we won for the first time,” stated Keasler. “Also, proposing to my wife on our football field. Those are great memories.”
Since Keasler’s first season as head coach in 2011, the Spartans have gone 4-22 and kicked-off this season with a win against Spring Hill for 2013. Moving up from Class AA to AAA this year, new challenges are ahead for the Spartans.
“Although I’m a little worn down from it,” noted Keasler, “I think this job will only make me stronger in the future.”
The Head Coach said that the administration was very supportive throughout his term and “the kids were good kids.”
Keasler told his players Monday prior to practice and said they were a little shocked but will be just fine. “They will be good fathers and husbands one day, and that’s what my main goal was from the start,” said Keasler. “To help make them successful men.”
The Spartans will be finishing the season off strong with four more match-ups. This week Summit will head over to district rival Dickson County (0-6) to face the Cougars at 7:00 p.m.
