A veteran Spring Hill Fire Department engineer remains in intensive care at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville after being bit by a rattlesnake Sunday afternoon.
Kyle Watson, with the department for eight years now, was hiking with his wife and children in Maury County Sunday, when around 2:40 p.m. a timber rattlesnake bit his finger multiple times. He passed out and hit his head on a rock, according to SPFD. His wife called Maury County rural fire and rescue, to come to their location about a mile and a half back into the woods.
It took until about 4 p.m. to get to a spot where the Vanderbilt Life Flight air rescue helicopter could fly him to its emergency room in Nashville.
“We went up there last night and visited him in the ER,” Terry Hood, SPFD Chief, said. “He was in good spirits, and now it is just going through the motions of getting treatment and getting healthy.”
“It is still touch and go and we hope everything works out for him and his family.”
