Tylin Oden threw four touchdown passes and ran in another, but Spring Hill would fall in overtime to the Dickson County Cougars, 49-42.
Both teams would score on their opening drives, Spring Hill’s touchdown coming in the form of a Tylin Oden pass to Zach Frye. The Cougars offense, led by Jacob Murphree, was able to run in another touchdown for Dickson County. The Raiders would turn the ball over, and Dickson County quickly capitalized and expanded their lead to 21-7. Before the half, Spring Hill was able to cut into the Cougar lead with a Dre Smith touchdown, sending the Raiders to the locker room for the half trailing 21-14.
Spring Hill’s Daniel Johnson picked off an errant Cougar pass early in the second half. On the next drive, Oden connected with Dre Smith for another touchdown, but a missed extra point kept the Cougars in front 21-20. The Cougars drove the ball down and scored, expanding their lead to 28-20. When the Raiders took the field on offense again, Tylin Oden connected with his brother Justin, which led to another Zach Frye touchdown. Spring Hill punched in the two-point conversion. Dickson County moved the ball downfield and scored a late touchdown, making the score 35-28 Cougars at the end of the 3rd.
A Frenetic Finish Forces Overtime
Spring Hill would once again rely on Dontae Smith to tie the game back up at 35. The Raider defense was able to stop the Cougars and the brothers Oden connected to move the ball into the redzone. Tylin Oden was able to dive over the pylon from 8 yards out to give the Raiders the lead for the first time with 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter. With less than 90 seconds to play, the Cougars took the ball for one final drive. With 3 seconds left in regulation, Murphree completed the pass to Trey Grimes for the tying touchdown.
With the momentum on their side, the Cougars opened the overtime session with the ball. Murphree connected with Tez Coleman from 10 yards out to take the lead 49-42. When the Raiders took over, Spring Hill was unable to score, dropping the Raiders to 1-3 on the season.
The Raiders look to respond next week at home against regional opponent Tullahoma in Class 4A, Region 4.
