Giant Beer Can or Porta Potty?

At big events you may soon be looking for the row of giant beer cans instead of a row of white tops when needing to answer nature’s call. There are two guys in Nolensville wanting to make porta johns the next big thing in advertising.

The idea is to dress up portable outdoor toilets with reusable fabric wraps that can be an ad image for just about anything, not just beer companies.

“We can make this entire porta john look like a beer can, or a Jack Daniel’s bottle, anything. You name it, we can do it,” Martin said.

Residents of Nolensville and owners of Portabranding, Matt Martin and David Jones, got their patent approved on Monday for the portabranding set upporta potty advertising wraps. They fit snuggly around any type of porta john, and have bungie cords to hold them in place at the bottom.

The price tag for the product is $1,200. They are reusable, made with Italian ink, UV resistant and Martin said the ink is guaranteed not to fade or run for up to three years. Martin also said that public parks or big events that buy portable toilets at a loss would be able to rent out the ad space of the porta potty to whoever has bought a wrap.

“We’re just taking something that’s been out there forever, meaning the porta john, and we’re making it prettier. We’re also advertising somebody’s product, brand or business and giving it more exposure and the cool part is, once you buy it you own it.” Martin said.

There are also versions of the wrap with LED lighting in the fabric to light up the portable toilets at night.

Martin got the idea standing at the urinal reading the advertisements. He wondered how he could take that idea to the outdoors with a porta potty, and started to put the pieces together. The moment he knew it was going to work was a day he was driving through the Governor’s Club.

“There was a porta john on the street in front of a beautiful home, all the homes were built around it, portabranding frontbut this particular home was getting a pool built in the backyard. Well, right next to the porta john on the street is a sign in the yard for the pool company. And I looked at the two of those and I thought ‘ what would the business like better, all this branding space or that little sign? And what about the homeowners and the neighbors? Wouldn’t they rather have that wrapped?'”

For now, Martin and Jones are spreading the word through their website at www.portabranding.com, and hope that their big idea will soon catch on so that a porta potty wrapped in an advertisement is a normal sight to behold.
