Original Story 7.12.13
Pollo Tropical opened to crowds on Wednesday, July 10th and the drive through was still booming at 2 p.m. when the Pollo Tropical Media Surfing Challenge began. Earlier that morning the winner of the free Pollo Tropical for a year was awarded to Janis Stables.

Three contestants dared to catch a wave in the blistering heat, Channel 4 News Anchor Adam Wurtzel, Roger Garcia of UNIMAS Nashville, and the Williamson Source’s News Editor Chuck Rainey. Competition was fierce but in the end Chuck was the victor. Managing to stay atop the mechanical surf board for 4 seconds longer than his closest challenger reaped a reward of $1,000 to his favorite charity. “As a veteran I enjoy giving back to those who served, and Operation Stand Down Nashville is my chosen charity.” They help get homeless veterans back on their feet and off the street.
