Sam O’Brien, 19, of Nolensville will compete on the 2018 season of American Ninja Warrior. To prepare for the competition, Sam has been training from someone who has experience on the show – Franklin resident and American Ninja Warrior veteran Travis Rosen has been with Sam every jump, leap and climb of the way.
In previous years, competitors had to be 21 years old to apply, but this season American Ninja Warrior lowered the age, opening the door for Sam.
American Ninja Warrior takes place in 6 regions: Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, and Minneapolis. Competitors who make it through qualifier and city finals, will move on to the finals in Vegas.
Sam began ninja warrior training in January of 2016 with Rosen. Prior to starting ninja warrior training, he played competitive soccer but his passion for ninja warrior training became greater and he chose it over soccer.
In October of 2016, Sam began competing in non-televised ninja leagues where you compete with ages youth through adults. The two leagues are NNL (National Ninja League) and the UNAA (Ultimate Ninja Athlete Association). Sam has traveled across the U.S. competing in these leagues, making national finals in both leagues in both 2016 and 2017.
Not only has Sam been competing at a national level he’s also a ninja warrior coach at Let it Shine in Cool Springs. And ninja warrior training has become a family affair. Sam coaches his younger brother Mark, who is 14 and sister, Sarah Ruth. Mark made national finals in both leagues in 2016 and 2017 and Sarah Ruth made it to NNL finals in 2017.
Season 10 for American Ninja Warrior is taping right now in Dallas according to the website. Each of these cities will host a City Qualifiers and a City Finals. From there, the best of the best Ninjas will continue on to the National Finals. No airing date for season 10 has been released yet but is expected to be at the end of May or early June.
