New Spring Hill Wal-Mart is Open

In a brief ceremony on Wednesday morning, the new Wal-Mart at 4959 Main Street opened its doors to the public. Wal-Mart’s one stop, 24-hour shopping alternative has been the talk of Spring Hill for a long time now. Some are unhappy with the retail giant coming in but if Wednesday was any indication, it appears that the community is happy to see them open.

Spring Hill Walmart 2“Spring Hill is proud of the grand opening of Wal-Mart as it will be a huge economic boost to our community with many new jobs and it will allow us to spend our hard-earned money in our own community,” said Spring Hill Mayor Rick Graham. “We anticipate their presence will spur additional investment by other businesses as retailers are noticing Spring Hill as a great place to do business.”

Most of us do not need a description of what a Wal-Mart store brings to the community, value-priced items and a one-stop shopping location sum up the amenities. This is a super-store with a pharmacy and grocery store added to the retail shopping experience.

The company has hired nearly 200 full or part-time employees and the store manager Martin Padgett is excited to meet everyone as they shop their community Wal-Mart. “We are excited about bringing convenience and everyday low prices to Spring Hill,” said Padgett. “Wal-Mart provides great career opportunities to people who otherwise may not get the chance at a better way of life.” This Saturday, October 19th a Big Family Welcome celebration will take place at the store. Meet the store manager; enjoy the family activities including face painting, cup cake decorating and samples of food. Join the conversation about your local Wal-Mart on Facebook.

Spring Hill Walmart 3During the ribbon cutting the store presented $8,000 in grants to community groups. In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Wal-Mart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Wal-Mart’s and the Wal-Mart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Wal-Mart stores in Tennessee donated approximately 13 million pounds of food in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 10.9 million meals. Additionally, Wal-Mart and the Wal-Mart Foundation gave more than $26.6 million in fiscal year 2013 in Tennessee.
