Letterman Hosts Last Show Wednesday Night

Wednesday night, May 20th, is the end of an era—David Letterman’s last night as the host of “The Late Show.”

Letterman has hosted the popular late night show since 1993 and has acquired millions of fans over the years. On Sept 8th, Stephen Colbert will fill his very large shoes as the new host.

Letterman’s most frequent guest over the years has been Bill Murray. Murray was his first guest in 1982 on NBC’s “Late Night” and again Letterman’s first guest when he moved to CBS  in 1993 (CNN). It was only fitting that Murray appear as the last scheduled guest on Tuesday night. Murray made a grand entrance, to say the least. Watch an excerpt of Tuesday night’s show above.

Wednesday night’s show will feature surprise appearances but no sit-down interviews.

As an homage to Letterman’s Top 10 Lists, CNN has created a montage of Letterman’s Top 10 Moments. Watch it here.
