Williamson County parents don’t have to wait for the state’s tax-free weekend to save money on back-to-school apparel for students. Goodwill will hold its monthly half price day on Saturday, August 1st where the entire store is 50 percent off and tax free.
“Every weekend — and weekday for that matter — is tax-free when you shop for clothes and shoes at Goodwill,” said retail District Manager Jennifer Martin, referring to a statewide tax exemption on the sale of used garments.
Moreover, Goodwill’s low prices mean parents can purchase three or more outfits for what they might spend on one elsewhere, she said.
The not-for-profit’s 35 retail stores in Middle and West Tennessee, including the ones in Franklin, Brentwood and Spring Hill, are stocked with many of the items students need to meet standard attire requirements, such as collared or Polo-style shirts in many shades like navy and white, and skirts and slacks in khaki, black and other colors.
“We have a wide variety of kids’ clothes from kindergarten to high school age in all sizes, colors and brands,” Martin said.
The regular price for children’s clothing in sizes 2T to 6X is $2.49 per piece, while clothing for older students’ sizes 7-16 is $3.49 per item.

College students also can find clothing, furniture and electronics at Goodwill to suit their needs, Martin said. She added that, in August, Goodwill stores will begin stocking the fall and winter clothing — including sweaters, jackets and coats — which will benefit students of all ages.
“Don’t forget to bring your donations to Goodwill when you come to shop,” she said. “By clearing the clutter and giving what you no longer need, you help Goodwill’s mission of providing job training and employment opportunities to people struggling to find work.”
