Franklin Residents Back the Blue

In the wake of much anti-police sentiment and the killings of multiple officers across the country, Franklin residents banded together to show their support for the Franklin Police Department today. Blue balloons and signs of encouragement decorated the front of the police station as well as the lobby.

Kathy Harms, who organized the effort in Franklin as part of the national Back the Blue movement, said the September 4 date corresponds with the funeral of Darren Goforth, a Texas deputy gunned down last week while fueling his patrol car, who was laid to rest this morning.

“(Law enforcement) are here for us every day,” Harms said. The Back the Blue effort shows “we’re here for them.”

Many across the country are showing their support for men and women in uniform by observing today as a day of prayer, sending supportive messages on social media, and visiting local police stations. You can send law enforcement a message of support on Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #BacktheBlue.
