Members and guests of the newly formed Williamson County Republican Women’s (WCRW)Organization were treated to an inspirational message from Dr. Ming Wang on Thursday, July 16th.
Lillie Belle’s in Franklin was bursting as WCRW presented Dr. Wang as the guest speaker for the second meeting of the organization. Wang has recently written a new book entitled, “From Darkness to Sight,” chronicling his journey from China where he escaped one of history’s darkest eras – China’s Cultural Revolution, to become a world renowned laser eye surgeon and philanthropist.
As Dr. Wang began to share his message he opened with the comment, “People who appreciate sight the most are blind people. People who appreciate freedom, are those who are not free.”
Living through the innocence of youth in a country where freedom was a dream, Wang used his tenacity and with the help of his parents found his way to America with only $50 and a Chinese/English dictionary in his pocket. Beating the odds Wang earned a PhD in laser physics, graduating magna cum laude with highest honors from Harvard Medical School and MIT.
While Wang was raised in an atheist home, in America through the teachings of a professor who helped him embrace the existence of God, he became a Christian, from this moment on science and faith work hand and hand in his life.
Freedom to worship, freedom of faith; Dr. Wang feels passionately that we cannot allow government to take our freedoms away through dependency on government, saying this is a “Passive form of dictatorship.”
Because of Dr. Wang’s journey he also believes, “Life is not complete unless we help others.” He has done just that with his foundations, “Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration” and “Wang Foundation for Christian Outreach to China.”
In closing out Wang’s powerful message he showed a video of a young blind Moldovan blind orphan who was brought to the United States for Dr. Wang to operate. Through the Wang Foundation surgery was performed on Maria that was “against all odds” with Wang saying, “Gods hands guided me and my team.”
