City of Brentwood Fire & Rescue Adds Engine 4

For the first time Brentwood Fire & Rescue will break the 3,000 mark in number of calls for assistance. It is because of the growing population, and demands on the department that a new engine has been added to serve the population of Brentwood.

When Brentwood residents see the new Engine 4 in service around July 1st, they probably won’t realize how much time went into designing this specialized fire engine. The new engine will serve the Sunset Rd. Station 4 & Training Center, 1300 Sunset Rd.

Brentwood Fire Chief Brian Goss explained that the city is dedicated and strategic in providing state of the art fire engines to serve the growing population. While you used to get fifteen or so years out of an engine, “Advanced technology is allowing us to keep engines longer. The new state of the art engines are specially equipped with what is needed for the station the Engine will be housed in,” Goss explained.

The Engine is a Pierce with 750 gallons of water and pump capabilities of 1500 gallons per minute. This engine is outfitted with a compliment of fire suppression equipment as well as basic and advanced life support medical equipment. Engine 4 also is outfitted with some basic rescue equipment including shore based water rescue and basic hazardous materials protection.

Because the Sunset area is primarily residential, Engine 4 was built with the specs above to meet the primary need of serving residential communities.

This week crews began to familiarize themselves with Engine 4 as training, as well as, tool and equipment mounting is underway. This training will continue until placing the engine into service.
