Centennial’s Katina named Mr. Football finalist

Centennial senior guard and defensive tackle Eli Katina was announced as a finalist for the Tennessee Titans Class 5A Mr. Football Lineman of the Year Thursday.

Katina, who was the Region 6-AAA Lineman of the Year last season, has paved the way for Centennial’s stout rushing attack all season.

The Cougars (11-1) enter the Class 5A quarterfinals averaging 194 rushing yards per game and five yards per carry.

Katina is the second player in Centennial history to be a finalist for the award. Centennial alum and Texas A&M freshman linebacker Tyrel Dodson won the 5A Lineman of the Year award last season.

The Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards will be presented on Monday, November 28, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

A committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2016 regular season.  Academics and character were also taken into consideration.  High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.
