It’s been a good four weeks for Centennial High School, from a historic first win over Brentwood High School to a four-game stretch where the Cougars have outscored their opponents 142-65.

But while Centennial has certainly turned around its season, Friday night’s home match-up with Ravenwood High School may be the game that defines it. With a win, Centennial (4-2) will gain a decisive 3-0 edge in the District 11-AAA standings, a two game advantage over the entire district.

Ravenwood (4-1, 1-0 District 11-AAA) will be the first opponent with a winning record that Centennial has faced since the Cougars lost to John Overton on Aug. 30, a team that defeated the Raptors 34-33 in overtime to break their 4-0 start.

Meanwhile, Centennial’s opponents during its four-game win steak have a combined record of 7-17.

For the most part, the Cougars have relied heavily on running back Deon Sanders for its offensive production, as well as quarterback Owen Roth and wide receiver Emmanuel Hall.

Hall has caught six of Roth’s seven touchdown passes, while Sanders has rushed for 11 touchdowns and 1123 yards on the season. As a team, Centennial has scored 22 touchdowns.

Ravenwood’s Week 5 loss to Overton was just the second time this season the Raptors allowed more than two touchdowns; in their first two games, Ravenwood held its opponents to six points.

Offensively, Ravenwood has relied heavily on its passing game and receiver Van Jefferson, who has 36 catches for 554 yards and nine touchdowns.

To put that into perspective, quarterback Avery Jankowski has thrown 11 touchdowns on the year.
Friday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m.
