Residents of Gateway Village were not pleased with the idea of a Mapco going in at the intersection of Moores Lane and Franklin Road as the plans for the proposed gas station were presented in a workshop during last Thursday’s meeting of the Franklin Board of Mayor and Alderman and Franklin Planning Commission.
The nearly 5,000 sq. ft. building would be built with the architectural feel of downtown Franklin, and include a deli and canopied walkway from the pumps into the store. Residents of Gateway Village were resistant to the idea because of safety concerns and they feel having a gas station there may impact their property values.
Since Mapco is headquartered in Brentwood, this would be the flagship store. The company has the ultimate say in buying the lot, but representatives said they would take the concerns of the Gateway Village residents under consideration.
No decision on building the Mapco convenience store has yet been made.
