Melinda Doolittle, Franklin resident, who appeared on season six of American Idol in 2007. She came in third in the voting, first with Simon Cowell calling her his “personal favorite” and quickly became the sweetheart of American Idol winning over the hearts of all with her stunning powerhouse vocals and her personal charm.

 You have a tour in December, how important was it to stop in Franklin?

I absolutely LOVE doing shows at home! Also, Franklin is one of the most magical places to me….especially at Christmas. I’m so excited!

Out of all of the venues you play across the country, how does the Franklin Theatre compare?

The Franklin Theatre has been one of my favorite places to catch live music for quite some time now, so I am honored every time I get to step into that gorgeous venue and make my own music. I love the intimate, classy feel of the theatre. I have played a lot of venues, but The Franklin Theatre has a unique soul of it’s own. I love playing there!

Some many of your songs are about love, why do you like to sing about love?

I’m a romantic at heart. I can’t help it. LOL! I think love is what drives us all. It’s something everyone can relate to. I’m really excited to incorporate my love of love songs into my Christmas show! Love and Christmas are a win-win.

Can you tell us one of your Christmas traditions?

Christmas is BY FAR my favorite holiday! My mommy and I have a tradition of buying a cupcake and a candle and singing Happy Birthday to Jesus. It’s definitely my favorite Christmas tradition.

What’s next for you?

Whew! More touring. LOL! Thankfully, I love what I do, so I’m looking forward to it!

    Can’t wait to see you at the Copa on Friday!! Front row at the bar…..Cheshire Cat grin evident for the entire show (just like last year :)) SO GLAD you chose to come back to such a wonderful, intimate venue!
