19 Retailers on the Verge of Closing

The days of shopping at the mall or brick-and-mortar stores is no longer a pastime for most. As online shopping has made it easier for shoppers to comparison shop and find the right item for them, online shopping has become the choice for many shoppers.

The consumer experts at Clark.com predicts that 19 retailers will make closure announcements later this year. Several of the retailers on the list currently have locations in Williamson County.

This list doesn’t come as a surprise, as in 2016, 14 large big box retailers made announcements to close locations across the country to maximize profit.

Several retailers on the list have locations in Williamson County and, as of now, some of those stores are still open and others have previously closed.

2.American Eagle:  Number of store closings: 150 over three years

3.Chico’s: Number of store closings: 120 stores between fiscal 2015 and 2017

4.The Children’s Place: Number of store closings: 200 between fiscal 2015 and 2017

5.Finish Line: Number of store closings: 150 by 2020
*located in CoolSprings Galleria

6.Hancock Fabrics: Number of store closings: 255/all stores

7.Macy’s: Number of store closings: 100
*located in CoolSprings Galleria

8.Men’s Warehouse: Number of store closings: 250
*located in CoolSprings Galleria

9.Office Depot/ Office Max: Number of store closings: 400
*The Office Max located in Brentwood closed in 2015

10.Sears/Kmart: Number of store closings: 142
*Kmart, on S Royal Oaks in Franklin, closed in 2014.

11.Sports Authority: Number of store closings: 140/all stores

12.Walgreens: Number of store closings: 200 between 2015 and 2017

13.Walmart: Number of store closings: 154, but opening 300 worldwide

14.Wolverine World Wide: Number of store closings: 100
