Sugar Drop in Brentwood is Closing its Doors

Sugar Drop has been open in Brentwood for over 40 years, owner Jan Edens says. But recently, she put a notice on the door of her business stating it is closing.

Edens is the third owner of the business but tells us she remembers shopping at the store as a young girl when it was located in the Brentwood Shopping Center before it relocated to Church Street.

Sugar Drop is really two shops in one. On one side, a bridal shop, on the other, a bakery supply shop, offering fondant icing, candy making molds, melting chocolates and other baking supplies.

Edens spends the majority of her time doing public speaking events about the nonprofit she founded called the Jason Edens Memorial Association. Jason Edens, Jan’s step son, died five years ago while serving in Afghanistan. He received the Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge in addition to numerous other awards and medals. Jason was a graduate of Franklin High School.

Through the Jason Edens Memorial Association, she gives money to the Fisher House and Journey Home Project. Looking ahead, Edens hopes to one day open a facility for animals who will be trained to assist soldiers who suffer from PTSD.

Running both the nonprofit and business is time-consuming. “I just can’t do both,” says Edens.

“In honor of Jason and to keep his memory alive, we are choosing to give back,” said Edens.

Currently, all wedding gowns are 50% off, flower girl and mother of the bride dresses are 60%.  There will be a liquidation sale January 9-13 with the details of the percentages off to be announced at a later date. In keeping with tradition, Edens is interested in selling the business to a new owner.  Any party interested in purchasing the Sugar Drop can contact Eden at 615-838-1130.
