Senior Annie Bruns went 3-for-3 in leading the Brentwood Lady Bruins past Hillsboro, 13-3, in the opening round of the Region 6-AAA softball tournament on Monday.
The victory ups the Lady Bruins’ season record to 28-9 and sends them into a rematch with district rival Dickson County to decide region championship on Wednesday.
Pitcher Hannah Koenig was strong on the mound for the Lady Bruins, striking out 10 batters before giving way to Jenna Galloway, who finished up for Brentwood.
Wednesday’s meeting between Brentwood and defending Class AAA state champion Dickson County will be the sixth meeting between the clubs this season. Brentwood has won four of the five previous meetings between the teams, including winning the District 11-AAA championship last week with an 11-1 rout last Saturday.
In Region 6-AA play, the Page Lady Patriots’ run through the postseason came to an end Monday with a 3-0 loss against visiting Creek Wood. The game went nine scoreless innings before Creek Wood broke through, scoring three times in the top of the 10th to earn the win and a region title berth.
Page, which won the District 12-AA tournament championship, finished its season 18-10.
