The Citizens for Brentwood Green Space (CBGS) announced Brentwood’s first-ever official “Volkswalk” will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Marcella Vivrette Smith Park on Wilson Pike. The walks will begin at 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.on the day of the event.
The event is called “A Walk in the Park” and was created through a partnership between The Citizens for Brentwood Green Space and the local chapter of American Volkssport Association (AVA). A Volkswalk is a non-competitive walk that is open to the community.
“It’s not a pledge walk or a competitive race, a Volkswalk is a fun activity you do with your family, with your employees, your club, your pet, or all by yourself!” said CBGS President Gil Hutchinson. “We are excited to be partnering with the AVA to bring this officially sanctioned event to Brentwood.” Citizens for Brentwood Green Space, Inc. is a volunteer citizens group organized as a non-profit (501c3) corporation. The mission of the organization is to preserve open space in Brentwood the form of parks, trails, historic sites, and flood plains while being sensitive to the rights of landowners and developers.
According to Hutchinson, this non-competitive walk is open to any individual, family, club or team and participation is not restricted to just Brentwood or Williamson County residents. “There are several trails of varying lengths in the park to choose from and walkers can start their walk anytime between 7:30 am and 9:30 am on the day of the event,” said Hutchinson. “This walk will bring our community together while supporting a terrific cause – Brentwood Green Space!” Hutchinson says all net proceeds from the event (total funds collected minus the cost of the event) will go towards amenities and improvements at Marcella Vivrette Smith Park.

Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for children, and includes a commemorative t-shirt for early registrants
Walkers can also receive AVA credit by registering at the AVA table on the day of the event.
Cost is $3 for credit and $5 for credit and new member packet.
There will be a 3.1 mile (5 km) or 6.2 mile (10 km) courses for those seeking AVA credit
There will be shorter courses for casual walkers who just want enjoy a morning in the park
Event sponsors will have tables at the event with information and product samples
Team registration for clubs, organizations, companies, groups is welcome and encouraged
The title sponsor for this first-ever Volkswalk is H. At 400 acres, Marcella Vivrette Smith Park is Brentwood’s largest park and the “crown jewel” in the Brentwood Park system. Activities and events will be held at the park throughout the year. The area’s population within 5 miles of the park is over 75,000.

Registration for the event is now open at www.brentwoodgreenspace.org. Registrations received before September 27 will receive a commemorative “Walk in the Park” t-shirt on the day of the event.
