Lily Pulitzer Vanishes at Target

Target’s latest collaboration with Lily Pulitzer hit stores on Sunday morning. It was one of the most anticipated launches yet. Actually, as with most launches, the line was featured on the Target website early Sunday morning beginning at 3 am before it hits stores.  As shoppers waited patiently to make their purchases, they became disappointed to find out the Lily Pulitzer  collection “broke the internet” as described by frustrated shoppers online. Target ‘s website crashed and the collection sold out instantly. So those who had hopes of purchasing online were left to shop in person. Target took to Twitter to issue an apology to shoppers.

At the Cool Springs location, a line was forming by 7:20 am, waiting for the store to open at 8am.

Yvonne Ayers, Brentwood resident said, “They let us in the store at exactly 8am and within minutes, the entire collection was literally gone!  There was a small amount of jewelry left on the rack, but all of the women’s clothing was gone.”

After customers filled their carts with the  collection, they headed to the dressing room.

“We then went to the dressing rooms and there were two lines–one to try on and the other to have a chance at the items people were discarding after they tried them on. I honestly thought that Target was very organized and ready to handle the craziness! They even had staff at the dressing rooms to guard people’s carts to make sure no one took anything out of them while they were trying on,” added Ayers.

The Lily Pulitzer collection was offering shift dresses at $38 compared to the department store prices of $200. But how does the quality compare to the department store version.

“The quality seems really good. The shift dresses aren’t lined like the original Lilly stuff, but the material isn’t thin and the fit was really true to size I think. I’m very satisfied with the quality. For 1/4 the price, it is awesome! I just wish they had more available and that there had been some way to keep people from buying huge amounts to sell, but I guess there is no way to really police that,” said Ayers.

If you  missed out on Target online or in the stores, there are already quite a few items listed on Ebay for at least double the price found in stores.  At this time, Target has not announced a restock on the items. Certainly this launch has given Target a boost after negative press from the data breach back in 2013.
