The U.S. has 614,387 bridges, almost four in 10 of which are 50 years or older. 56,007 — 9.1% — of the nation’s bridges were structurally deficient in 2016, reports the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).The most recent estimate puts the nation’s backlog of bridge rehabilitation needs at $123 billion.

In their 2016 Infrastructure Report Card, ASCE gave Tennessee a “C” overall, with a “B” for bridges. Using data from the American Society of Civil Engineers and the US Federal Highway Commission, these are the ratings of the busiest bridges in Williamson County.

1. I-65 over Church Street

Status: Not Deficient

*Sufficiency Rating: 83 out of 100, which is 3.40 lower than the average sufficiency rating for a bridge. Additionally, the bridge has a length of 29.9 meters.

Year Built: 1993

Daily traffic: 135,840 vehicles a day with traffic projected to reach 216,688 by 2032.

*The Sufficiency Rating determines if a bridge should remain in service or if the bridge is unfit for continued use. A score of 100 represents a fully functioning and sufficient bridge. A score of 0 represents a defective and insufficient bridge.
