Disney’s ‘Frozen’ Will Melt Your Heart

‘Frozen’ received two Oscar nominations and it’s the largest grossing film for Disney since ‘The Lion King.’ It stars the voices of Kristin Bell in the lead role of Anna and Idina Menzel as her sister Elsa.

While Disney has experienced a lull in box-office hits, ‘Frozen’ has thawed the hearts of movie goers everywhere. It’s a simple use of the tried and true Disney formula.

‘Frozen’ has become an instant hit for many reasons. It’s a throwback of sorts to classic Disney movies like ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Snow White.’ With a tale of a princess, a castle, and a kingdom under a spell, it proves that Disney knows how to enchant young audiences.

In every good kid’s movie, you’ll find a wise cracking side kick. In this case, that’s Olaf–a snowman–who can completely fall apart while also being completely whole again. He brings the kind of humor that kids enjoy and adults can appreciate.

And of course, every good animated film must have a catchy song that leaves you and your children singing the tune as you leave the theater and one that your child will want to download and play over and over and over again. “Let It Go” by Kristin Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez is a perfect children’s movie song. It’s not only become an anthem for children but The Academy has honored it with a nomination for Best Original Song. Their other nomination is for Best Animated Feature.

‘Frozen’ also has a great message. It’s all about girl power! ‘Frozen,’ while about the relationship between siblings, is truly about sisters, who are vastly different, finding a way to work together.

Not to be forgotten is the short film, ‘Get a Horse!’ that precedes ‘Frozen’– it should receive an award all on its own. The short features archival voice recordings of Walt Disney as Mickey Mouse. The short is three dimensional in nature, with Mickey and friends popping right off the screen in a humorous skit.

A family favorite for girls, boys and adults, ‘Frozen’ will leave you with that upbeat Disney spirit you have come to know and love. It is worth a visit to the theater to see this film before it comes out on DVD. Also, Disney announced a Broadway production of ‘Frozen’ slated to be out in the next few years.
